While our missionaries may not be literally scaling the highest peaks in the world, it can often feel that way to them. They face significant challenges, such as animosity from local leaders due to their outreach efforts, sudden visa changes that could expel them from their country of service, and even team conflicts that can feel like navigating through a storm. How should they navigate these situations?
Sherpas are critical to climbers attempting to reach the peaks of the Himalayans. They are elite local guides who know the mountains well, completed the climb themselves, and know how to guide others to success. UB Global can be like a sherpa to missionaries. Having been in missions for nearly 170 years, we know what it takes to succeed, how to properly prepare, how to gather the right supplies, what the common obstacles are, how to navigate unexpected situations, and more. Just like sherpas, we help prepare and walk alongside missionaries as they navigate the missions journey.
Here are two recent examples:
In June, we helped a rising high school senior with missions interest experience a six-week assignment working with the tribal Muslim Shoptars. We prepared her, kept in touch and mentored her during the trip, debriefed with her after she returned, and will continue to walk alongside her as she becomes more certain about God’s call for her.
In July, a missionary family was suddenly detained by aggressive border guards during a routine trip to update their visa. We spent many hours problem solving, guiding, and praying with them until they received their visa and were able to return to their field to serve three weeks later.
